Beth & Rob

I knew this one would be special. Beth and Rob were two beautiful people, inside and out and our first video call confirmed that. Going through a difficult and personal journey at the time, they joined me on the video call so bright and friendly, immediately drawing me to them and getting me so invested in them as a couple that I couldn’t wait for their big day.

Carwinley Barns was the host of this day, and it didn’t disappoint. What I noticed on arrival was the energy in both prep rooms. Bride and groom surrounded by incredible people who elevated the day and put them at ease from the minute it started. 

I immediately felt at home. 

SO much love, so much excitement – they day took off with a bang and continued on at a joyous pace, even when the Tennents tap ran dry at 6pm. 

One of my favourite wedding days, even now!

We took the twenty minutes at about quarter to eight, between the main course and dessert. It took roughly three minutes for them to stop thinking about the camera. We walked to the far end of the field, they argued gently about whether they were doing it right, and the light did what the light does in July in Yorkshire, which is to arrive sideways and make everything look like it has been remembered rather than seen.

By eleven the room had turned into the kind of party where the photographs stop being about the couple and start being about everyone else. His mother on the dancefloor. Two of her school friends sat on the steps outside with their shoes off, talking about something that clearly mattered. The last frame in this gallery was taken at eleven forty and I have no idea what any of them were laughing at.

That is the day. It is not the shortest gallery I have delivered and it is not the longest, but it is one I think about, mostly because of the door that blew open and nobody shut.
