Mike & Hev

As a wedding photographer, I get to see people having the best day of their lives every single week – it’s such a special privilege.

It does get that extra bit more special when the people you’re photographing are friends though. So when Mike reached out asking if I’d shoot their small elopement in the Scottish highlands, I said yes in an instant.

However, at this point I’d only ever shot three other weddings so I was a little anxious. I needn’t have worried however. The crowd they’d invited to join them was absolutely incredible and the day they planned couldn’t have been a more accurate representation of them.

So, I did the 6 hour drive up to Fort William the day before the big day, crossing my fingers that the heavens would stay firmly shut whilst we needed them to. I needn’t have worried, in fact. The next day, the sun shone so brightly that every tour bus imaginable descended upon Mike & Hev’s initial ceremony spot. So, a little creative thinking later, and a new spot was chosen and had been communicated to the celebrant – we were good to go.

The morning progressed without incident and I was able to get beautiful moments captured as the bridesmaids prepared in the Kingshouse Hotel and then as guests arrived at the new ceremony location – The Wee White House, backing up onto a vista of Buachaille Etive Mòr.

Mike & Hev were married in front of their nearest and dearest, in a celebration that celebrated what was to come and honoured what had been before. They did their own thing, in a place chosen by them, with the people they cared about most, and the day felt all the more special for it!
